Interactive SIGRID Java-browser
(version 2.0beta, 29 March 2001)
Java-browser for SIGRID (WMO, 1989) formatted sea ice charts is been
developed at AARI to support software exchange within WMO project "Global
Digital Sea Ice Data Bank". Current version is a beta one and was tested
under Netscape version 4.5 and and IE 5.0 under Windows NT 4.0 - 2000.
Attention: user may expect difficultiesunder Windows
95-98. For correct and stable work it is highly recommended to use
Netscape 4.5 or higher and not IE.

-
BSIM - Baltic Sea Ice meeting,
3-4 days interval sea ice charts for the Baltic Sea for 1961-1979.
Submission date - October 1998. Data were produced indirectly by converting
information initially archived in BSIM code into SIGRID. For some cases
of sea ice conditions there is no full correspondence between two formats.
Also, there is no land-mask in initial data, so a land-mask extracted from
NIC SIGRID data was used. Latter is a bit inconsistant, as a result, a
number of false meshes occur nearby coast.
-
CA - Canadian Ice Service, weekly
and monthly sea ice charts for Canadian Arctic for 1968-1998, including
4 sub-regions: East-Arctic, West-Arctic, East-Coast and Hudson Bay. Latest
data submission date - May 2000. By now no differences from SIGRID standard
were noticed except one minor one: in header group :BYYYXXXX four digits
for number of lines and three digits for a number of columns were used
instead of three and four. Error found was corrected automatically.
-
JP - Japan Meteorological Agency,
5-days period sea ice charts for the Sea of Okhotsk for 1971-1999.
Latest data submission date - winter 2000. Initial data are in SIGRID-2
format. Conversion into SIGRID(1) was carried out. By now no syntax mistakes
were found out. Data contain information for sea ice total concentration
only.
-
RU - Arctic and Antarctic Research
Institute, 10-days and weekly sea ice charts for Eurasian Arctic for 1950-1992
and 1997-present.. Data for 1950-1992 period were submitted by autumn
1998 and were compiled separately for the Western (westward 110 E) and
Eastern sectors. Weekly data for 1997-present period are included weekly,
commonly on Thursday, single chart presenting whole Arctic. By now no syntax
mistakes were found. No land-mask is inserted into original data.
-
US - USA National Ice Center,
global (northward of 45N), weekly sea ice charts for Northern hemisphere
for 1972-1994. Latest data version was received by September 2000.
Latter version is thoroughly quality-checked and is abundant of sea ice
information. Original data have some syntax alterations from standard SIGRID,
namely no finalizing token group ":99:99:99" (which was inserted automatically).
By the end of 2000 year I will try to finalize the check of dat set.
